Final Project Reflection
My project is a drawing in colored and black and white pencil. The drawing is of my friends yearling POA Lenny. The project took me about 10 hours outside of class. I think that strong parts of my project are the shading in Lenny's body because I took a lot of time and used light and dark values. I feel that I could have done a better job on drawing Meredith's face because it doesn't quite look exactly like her. My goal when creating this project was to create a type of memoribilia because unfortunately Lenny won't stay a baby for very long. When drawing my project I focused on shape, color, and space. I focused on the elements because I have both color and black and white on my project. Shape was also very important because it shows the stages of growth throughout his life so far. Space was taken into consideration because I wanted the drawing to look symmetrical and professional. The most important principles I used were emphasis and balance. I used these principles because it helps the project to flow and helps the main picture in the middle stand out due to it's color. Like most projects, I learned that it is crucial to take your time. I was reminded yet again because of the amount of time in detail needed to make each area of the projects stand out. First, I began by sketching out each picture. I made sure that the one on in the middle was double the size of each individual part. Next, I began by coloring the main picture with multiple layers of colored pencil. I then began shading and drawing the pictures beginning in the bottom left corner working counterclockwise. While creating my project I found out that I need to take breaks because I got irritated. This made my drawing take much longer than I planned. I did this project according to my plan, however I wish I would have done this differently because I am left handed, and found that I smear some things when drawing. I fixed this problem by placing other paper over the areas to avoid being smeared. I believe that this project was very worthwhile because it helped my learn to make my drawings look more realistic and it got me a graduation gift. Next year I will be taking drawing and painting. Over the summer I will be taking my art and photography to the North Iowa Fair. I will probably continue drawing and painting in my stetchbook over the summer.
