Collage Reflection
I think that one of the strong parts of my collage is the hand because it is in good detail and is the main point of emphasis throughout the collage. I think I could have done better at spreading out similar pictures throughout the collage. The main emotion in my collage is determination. I have the beginning of some events in my life, the middle of the journey showing determination, and the ending or current spot of my life. I chose determination because I am involved in a lot of activities that require determination and repitiveness. In my collage I have alot of darker values contrasted by some lighter tones. The hand is the lightest value along with some white in the pictures, and my darkest is the black in the background behind the hand and most pictures. In my collage I used a lot of Mod Podge because it is very sticky and durable. I didnt have to cut much and the tearing gave my collage the tattered look I was going for. I put a layer of Mod Podge underneath every picture and across the top of the whole collage. I used mostly torn construction paper and pictures printed on different paper because they are easy to stick down and look uniform. I also used paint and a charcoal pencil to add detail to the forground and the background. I think that the most valuable thing I learned is to have a plan before you start a project, but don't be opposed to change. I think this is the most imporant thing I leanred because it can help when doing many other projects. My first step when doing this project was to determine my emotion, determination. I then thought about objects that could symbolize determination. Once I picked the fist I then started looking through my pictures that showed the beginnings of some events of my life, the determination through the middle, and then the ending or current position of my life. I then stuck all of it down with Mod Podge, put a layer on top, and painted the background. I think this is a worthwhile project because it gave us a chance to put a lot of emotion into our art. One thing that could be done differently is maybe showing some more example of paper collages because I didn't have a great idea of what the goal was in the project.
