Thematic Painting Reflection 6-D
I feel that one of the strongest parts of my painting is the dogs face because I spent a lot of time on it and it has lights and darks with shadows. I also like the sky and the grass because of the different colors I used. I think I could have done a better job at creating my shadows because they don't look the best and arent that finished. My theme is my dog because I thought it would be fun and challenging, which it was. My major colors are bright yellows, oranges, and browns for the dogs body because it is the color of his fur. I also used blue and greens to create my background. There is also layers of white over the sky and various parts of Oliver. The lighter areas are toward the top left corner of my painting because that is where my light source comes from, and the shades are toward the lower right corner to create shadows. I learned that tiedeous tasks are very frustrating but rewarding when done. I also learned that the smaller details make the painting complete. First I painted the sky because it is the farthest away from my main point of focus using horizontal rolling strokes. Next I created the grass using vertical strokes. Then I began with my main point of focus, the dogs face, and finished with his body and shadows. I painted it this way because I learned in Middle School that you should paint the farthest thing away first and layer on top of it. I really did like this project even though it was time consuming. However I don't like having a lot of options so maybe saying it has to be an emotional or certain themed painting.
