Print Making Reflection
I think the good or strong parts of my project is the white space on my prints
because I spread the ink evenly before printing. I feel I could have done better
at planning ahead when carving the linoleum because I didn't like all of the
parts where the ink was. In my first design I did a tree. I chose the tree
because I thought it would look cool with the sky and the grass in the
background with all of the detail. My second matrix is of my last name. I chose
my last name because I wanted to experiment with words. My favorite color family
was our first. I really liked the black ink on white paper because of the
definite contrast between the two colors. I feel that taped together my
patterns looked very professional. Throughout both matrices there was
horizontal lines in the background and even though they weren't precise, they
still displayed rhythm and closely lined up with one another. I learned from
this project that could be applied to many other projects is to take your time
and do things thoroughly. I also learned that when working with sharp carving
tools you always have to carve away from your body! When making my matrices, I
first started by carving the tree. Next I carved out the grass at the bottom
using the smallest blade head, and ended by carving the sky in the background.
Then, I started my second matrices by carving my name and then the horizontal
background. After finishing both I began making many prints. I did enjoy this
project, however, I feel that next time when doing this project we could do less
prints with more colors because I would've liked more time to carve the
matrices.
